BOXING

boxing is also known to be called as pugilism or nicknamed "sweet science" . This is a sport born long back and Greeks played something called fist fighting and was also played in Olympics 688 B.C. In this sport two boxers or contenders of same weight fight with their fists in series of 1 to 3 minute rounds . In both Amateur and Professional boxing , the boxers try to land the punches on each other opponent's face and torso area , these areas are legal areas where the points will be awarded , and punches below waistline is considered illegal . At the end of the fight the boxer with most number of points will be declared winner . A boxer can also win through knocking out his opponent , the term used would be K.O(knock out) or if the opponent is too weak to carry on fighting a technical knock(T.K.O) out is given in favor of healthier boxer .

Boxing was done with bare fists when sport of boxing came into existence . Boxing is often called "art of self defense" later as the rules changed the original rules of boxing changed where now as we see boxers wear their gloves which proved to be less fatal and so that this sport can be endorsed .Each round is 3 minutes long after which a break of one minute would be given before commencement of next round . Professional boxing has 15 rounds (now reduced to 12 rounds) whereas Amateur boxing has 3 rounds . The rules of of boxing change from country to country

In boxing winners are determined either by a decision of the judges,referee or both , winner may also be decided by a knock out (where a boxer is punched and sent to the floor and fails to get up within 10 seconds) and a doctor or referee can declare a boxer injured resulting in technical knock out .

the boxing ring is actually a square , 12 to 20 feet on each side and enclosed on each side by three or four ropes . gloves should be worn by boxers as general practice . gloves are made of leather which have no finger hole except for the thumb and varies in weight around 60z to 16oz depending on weight of the boxer
